WASH DAY ROUTINE!!!
Hello Afro Family! Welcome back to my blog and if you are new welcome to you. Thank you for your support. Now, before you read this very personal blog today please read the previous blog posts because they are very important to you retaining length! IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR HAIR ACCORDING TO ITS POROSITY IT WILL NOT GROW, IT WILL KEEP BREAKING AND IT WILL BE THIN. Today we will be discussing my favorite topic. Those of you that know me personally know how important wash days are to me. The most frequently asked question I get is how I wash my hair and which products I use. So today I am dedicating a whole blog post to those two questions.
My hair is mostly high porosity, so I choose to wash it every week. It needs all the help it can get, so every week I alternate between a deep conditioning treatment and a protein treatment. If I had low porosity hair I would would do more moisture treatments and less protein treatments. These are the five steps i take to wash my hair on my deep conditioning treatment day:
- PREPOO: I warm some coconut oil in the microwave, just to make it softer so i can use it. I apply it on my hair from my roots to the ends. I separate the hair until it does not tangle any more and I divide every section of hair I have done in jumbo twists. I wait for 30 minutes and then wash 70 percent of the oil off.
3.DEEP CONDITIONING: I apply deep conditioner on my hair and leave it in for 30 minutes, I also use a shower cap or a plastic bag and a headscarf to assist in the conditioning process. Thirty minutes later I wash off the deep conditioner.
4. LEAVE IN CONDITIONER : I take a wide tooth comb and detangle my hair while I apply some leave in conditioner in it.
5. SEALING: I use organ oil to seal in the moisture and put my hair in jumbo braids and let it air dry. I love organ oil but because I have high porosity hair, I mix it with olive oil.
These are just basic steps, because I have high porosity hair I also do the things I listed on my last blog to make sure my cuticles are closed and that my hair stays moisturised.
Protein treatment day:
I use step 1 to 5 as well on protein treatment day, the only deference is is step 3.
3. PROTEIN TREATMENT : I use hair mayonnaise and I leave it in my hair for 30 minutes. I use shower cap and a doek, you can also use a towel or a shirt it does not matter to assist in the waiting process.
Very important:
I do not dry my hair with a towel. I use a cotton t-shirt because a towel can easily break my hair.
You choose how many days a month you wash your hair, it should not be less than two times though.
If you have a low porosity, using a protein treatment every six week will be beneficial . Everyone needs protein in their hair. If you are washing your hair for the first time it is always beneficial to start with protein treatment. THERE IS NO ONE MIRACLE PRODUCT THAT CAN GROW YOUR HAIR. Hair needs love, kindness and patience to grow.
That is it for today Afro family! If you would like me to explain any part of this process further please comment below. I buy all my products from clicks except the coconut oil, get it at checkers.
